Avocado toast

You can't believe everything you read on the Internet, but they say the avocado toast fad is behind the recent spike in avocado prices.  It's the trendy new hipster breakfast.  If you love avocados they are surprisingly filling on a dense piece of wheat bread.

We finally have permission to forget about the calories because of the health benefits of avocado and whole grains. People also add eggs and get fancy with toppings, but I like it plain.

These bags of tiny avocados are only $2.69 at Trader Joes.  Each has about 250 calories of healthy fat, less than a bowl of cereal.  Once they're ripe, they keep in the fridge for days. That's good, because I'm the only one in this house who eats avocado.

Well, for some reason the electricity went off briefly last night which messed up the clock radio alarm. Instead of waking up at 4:30 to John's Chopin music loop, his "emergency" backup alarm went off in a rude way.  Now all the digital clocks in the house are blinking.  I'm starting this gorgeous sunny day in a semi-discombobulated state. Time to fire up the toaster.

  1. Do be aware that avocados (and bananas) are high in potassium, especially if you're on any kind of cardiac medication.

All my digital clocks have a battery backup -- if the power goes off, the alarm will still go off at the proper time, but they still blink.
