This has also been great weather for tropicals like cannas, and this pretty banana plant I bought at Home Depot in June. With our cool summer nights, the tropicals are so slow to get started here. Unfortunately, when they finally do come into their prime the days are already cold, short and wet. I should learn to say "bye-bye" and treat them like other annuals, but get attached to these big plants I nursed along all summer. I get a kick out of the gardening books that tell you to winter them over in "a cool, bright room," as if we all have extra sunny rooms to spare for big outdoor pots!
A mild El Nino may affect our NW weather this year. It tends to send the stronger, wet storms south. Sorry California, but we had our share of misery last winter-- your turn!
