Casa Blanca days

We can't remember a summer in Seattle that felt more like summer than this one. June is typically cool and foggy, then in July or August we'll have a short stretch of hot weather and have to be content with that for another year. But this summer has been one long string of sunny, warm days. The lawns in our part of town are now a "politically correct" crispy yellow-- we haven't had a good rain since May and most people don't have sprinkler systems. Who cares? No one has to mow in August, and the grass will green up again in the fall. But the gardeners who've kept up on watering their beds have been rewarded this year with beautiful flowers and vegetables.

Hard to beat the Casa Blanca lily for fragrance and pristine beauty. I have several of these plants left in the garden, and they come back every year. They look fragile, but are not as finicky as John's favorites, the fancy Stargazers lilies I struggle to grow. The sun comes up and goes down in a big orange ball, and the morning light was beautiful on this perfect white lily.
