Welcome, February

One of my favorite calendar pages from the Duc de Berry Book of Hours. The miniature painting depicts a snowy, rural winter scene in such fine detail. The lady of the manor warms her legs by the fire with her servants. What is she thinking? You can almost hear and smell the cold farm activities outside.

So we made it through the long blank calendar of January.  I have exactly two things on the calendar in February: my second Pfizer shot and a dentist appointment.

I'm incredibly grateful, of course, but will be glad when it's over. The second supposedly causes an even stronger immune reaction, and I didn't feel so hot after the first one. Well, bring it on.

I'm reading nothing but good news about the vaccines. Almost too good to believe. They almost entirely prevent the disease-- a miracle. And the tiny fraction of people who do get sick recover easily. Hopefully some happier activities on the March and April calendars. It's been so long since we've had anything to look forward to.

There's a monster winter storm on the east coast this morning. In the coastal Northwest, just rain, rain, rain stretching ahead for days. Although they're hinting now we might have a cold snap before the end of the month, with a final chance for lowland snow. Winter's last gasp.

Up in the mountains, it just keeps coming down. The kids were snowshoeing and sledding up at their property this weekend. Nova said it was over waist deep on the upper hill.  Whee!
