Parting shots

It wasn't easy dragging ourselves away from the Coyote Inn yesterday to fly back to Seattle. As the week passed, the desert weather clicked over to pure perfection-- clear blue skies and mid-80's.
The Coyote Inn has only 7 rooms and is near the ritzy Historic Tennis Club district just a few blocks from the action on the main drag of Palm Springs. It's the sort of place where regulars come back year after year-- casual and relaxing.  Our room had a kitchenette and fireplace.

All the rooms face the courtyard just a few steps from the pool.  For such a small space, it was surprisingly quiet and private.  Maybe that had to do with the no kids, no pets policy :-)
Anyway, it was the best sort "cozy" inn, because being social was entirely optional.
The courtyard was full of flowers and swarming with hummingbirds...it seemed like our three nights at the Coyote Inn flew by.  All too soon it was time to check out and head to the airport.
On the way we consoled ourselves with a wonderful outdoor lunch at a restaurant called Spencer's. That sandwich in front of me is a Main lobster club. Can you imagine? I don't think I have ever eaten something so delicious and indulgent.

Then we had a couple of hours to kill at the most pleasant airport in the world.  Outdoor seating, views of the mountains and palms, shopping and Starbucks.  More like a resort experience than airport waiting.  Our flight left on time, full of sad people headed back to Seattle; we were home by 8 pm.

All was well at the house, except for the annoyance of finding 6 days of mail stuffed to overflowing in our porch mailbox. I turned in a vacation hold before we left, but our mailman apparently didn't get it.  And we wonder why the post office is going out of business???

(Expect me to be pretty grumpy for a while.)
