Beginnings and endings

"In my beginning is my end.
Houses rise and fall, crumble, are extended
Are removed, destroyed, or in their place
Is an open field, or a factory, or a by-pass.
Old stone to new building, old timber to new fires,
Old fires to ashes, and ashes to earth."

from, The Four Quartets

Once upon a time, this was our parent's home on the outskirts of Cripple Creek.
And here's the same location today. About 10 years ago, it took just a few minutes for construction workers to demolish their 100-year-old house and make way for a huge casino and restaurant complex. Sam and Marge now live in a comfortable new house on the other side of town. But those of us who remember the funky little gray house in the meadow will always have that Twilight Zone feeling when we drive by this monstrosity on the way to Cripple Creek.

So it goes...although I've been too busy on this trip for much past reflection. Even too busy for my addictive daily blogging habit.

Yesterday the mountains were frozen hard and desolate as Siberia. This morning the brilliant Colorado sun was back in full UV force. All day while running errands I heard the gentle sound of melting snow dripping on the dry, brown ground. Tiny patches of green started appearing like a small miracle before my eyes. By the end of the week it will be summer in Colorado Springs. The high mountains will have to wait a little longer for the short 6 week summer to begin.

Happy birthday, Dave! We share many good old Cripple Creek memories.
