Parched

The neighbor's honey bees flock to this bird bath the minute I fill it. They must be able to smell water. All the birds and little creatures are thirsty, poor things.

What a parched summer, with no measurable rain in Seattle for many weeks. We are way below normal for the year.  I've never seen the the yard so dry, but I might have said that last year as well.  There's no doubt our summers are more arid, I just have to look at old garden pictures.

These lush lilies were grown back in 2009. You could always count on at least a few good rains during the summer. Hand watering just isn't the same as a natural soaking and rain also contains nitrates, an essential fertilizer. Our flowers, other than hydrangeas, are pretty much over.

On the bright side, with a dose of Mater Magic, great climate for growing tomatoes in containers along the hot side of the house.

That's about all the news. I haven't volunteered at the Cafe for several weeks, but going back today to see what's been happening in senior land.
