Super moon and sunshine

Who could ask for anything more?  The Snow Moon was a stunning sight on Friday and Saturday.  After a 5-week record deluge, it was the brightest thing we've seen in the Seattle sky for ages.

Then Sunday beat all expectations with full sunshine. People walked around the neighborhood looking dazed, like hibernating creatures first venturing out. And I felt like a new person after a couple hours working in the yard.  It's amazing what a dose of vitamin D and outdoor exercise does for the spirits.

I pruned the roses back by 2/3, harsh treatment that always shocks my neighbor, a more cautious pruner.  Then I fertilized them early, the secret to a strong first bloom in June. You can't be too timid in a yard with masses of vegetation growing like mad.  Only the laurel hedge and fig tree were here in 1980.  Goodness, what a busy person for 40 years.

Of course, it isn't spring yet, not by a long shot. But a few primroses brighten up the back deck.

It was light enough at 5 to fire up the grill, and hopefully kill off the winter pathogens before cooking chops for Sunday dinner.
