Book of Hours
September grape harvest
Chateau de Samur
The magnificent Chateau de Samur was only 10 years old in 1412, about the time this painting was made for the Duc du Berry's Book of Hours. The castle belonged to his rich nephew, apparently a "very, very high-quality person."
The towers and battlements still stand today, along with the vineyards. In 600 years, what will remain of our golden monuments to wealth and power?
Sweet September is suddenly here-- the beginning of the end of summer. But you wouldn't know it in Seattle, as we're going to break even more heat records over the next few days. Seattle typically gets about 3 inches of rain by the end of September. Time will tell.
In the meantime, those hazy, crazy days of summer roll on. Our busy weekend visitors:
Horsing around in the kitchen
Fruit and flower stand
