Diamond Eyes

John's co-workers gave him this lovely miniature tree rose called "Diamond Eyes."  Along with being beautiful, it has an old-fashioned clove and spice perfume. The flower clusters are an unusual dark purple, with a little white ‘eye’ that lights up the center of each blossom.

It could be planted right in the ground, but I'm going to look for a perfect big pot, so I can move it around when it blooms.

This new rose was created in 2013, by the "King of Roses," Tom Carruth. He has won more awards and created more all American roses than any other living hybridizer.  In 2012, he was named the Rosarian Curator at The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens.

It is wondrous place of fine art, scholarship and natural beauty, if you have the opportunity to visit San Marino, California.

The ladies at work also gave him this sweet poem in a frame. Of course it makes me cry, for both of our moms.
