The first Boeing 727, now restored, made its last flight yesterday from Everett to the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field. If you were lucky enough to fly in the 1970's, you probably traveled in style on a 727.
Those were the days
It's interesting that the 727 was the only Boeing commercial jet model without a dedicated prototype. In other words, the first airplane wasn't kept for flight test, but went immediately into service.

After United finally retired the plane in 1991, it was donated to the Museum of Flight and has been undergoing renovations in Everett. That took a lot of donated parts and volunteer hours.
And what a work horse. During its United career, N7001U racked up 64,495 flight hours, made 48,060 landings, and flew an estimated three million passengers, according to the Museum of Flight.
