“Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine to the soul.”
Luther Burbank, botanist (1849-1926)
March 12 is celebrated as "Plant a Flower Day" although no one seems to know who started the tradition.
Do flowers really make people "more helpful?" Luther Burbank was an American botanist and horticulturist. He was a tireless, brilliant, mad scientist of horticulture who developed more than 800 strains and new varieties of plants, including the ubiquitous Burbank russet potato (McDonald's fries) and the Shasta daisy.

Spring arrives in the city and fresh flowers suddenly appear in the most improbable places, making everything seem clean and bright. I took these three photos yesterday through the power lines in industrial Georgetown, along the busy street in front of the museum warehouse.
