March

A light exists in Spring
Not present in the year
at any other period
When March is scarcely here.
-  Emily Dickinson

It was the second snowiest February on record in the Northwest mountains, and the snow pack in the Cascades is now at normal levels-- good news for our summer water supply.  The ski resort at Stevens Pass received over 13 feet of snow in just 3 weeks.

As for the lowlands, 10 different weather systems in February brought 18 straight days of rain to Seattle. And now "they" are predicting a high chance of a dry and hot summer across the West.

Look at Alaska! I heard this morning there was barely enough snow for the Iditarod dog sled race.

We had two beautiful days of spring-like weather this week giving just a taste of things to come.  The little first daffodil decided to bloom, reliable as clockwork in March, along with some crocus.  The weeds are waking up.

Potting soil and bark bags are stacked outside the grocery stores, just a reminder of my pot problem. Costco has gardening supplies and super-size bags of summer blooming bulbs near the front door, and I threw some begonia tubers in the cart on impulse, which is exactly what they hope you will do. Then I had a rather good hotdog for $1.50.  Weak-willed.
