"Globed buds"

How long the winter has lasted—like a Mahler
symphony, or an hour in the dentist's chair.
In the fields the grasses are matted
and gray, making me think of June, when hay
and vetch burgeon in the heat, and warm rain
swells the globed buds of the peony.

From, "Walking Alone in Late Winter"
Jane Kenyon

I love the peonies when they first come out of the ground in March.  In Seattle, we don't have to wait until June.  They looked more "animal" than "vegetable" in the rain this morning.

And speaking of animals, you'll see Mr. Black-cap Chickadee up on the roof, scolding the intruder in "his" house.
It was a (nerve-wracking) success last year.  Maybe I should let them have at it again?
