Jays and Crows

The Stellers Jay is a "bold, inquisitive, intelligent, and noisy bird" according to the Cornell Lab of Orinthology.  And they love peanuts.

And they're good at training people to give them peanuts. We see jays in the neighborhood all the time, but for some reason a small flock is hanging around the front hedge.

Well, I guess it could have something to do with the 20 pound sack of peanuts I bought at Costco.  It goes something like this:  I hear a squawk, I get up from my desk and throw a handful out the front door, the crows swoop in help themselves first (the experts can fly off with three at once) and then it's the jay's turn.  Repeat the above. Life gets dull this time of year.

How's your weather? No matter where you are in America, winter is becoming a bore. Rain is beating on our windows in Seattle and it will be drenching wet all week.  The mountain passes are closed this morning because of dangerous snowy conditions. The only consolation is that very lush gardens usually follow a very wet winter. The big action is all beneath the surface right now.

The Eternal Struggle

Daylight Savings Time (can you believe it?) begins next weekend.
