Wet, wet, wet

Am I happy or sad?
Oh, it's been raining all week. In fact it never stopped raining yesterday, and this morning the TV weatherman says more showers.  I'm looking out on a gray, green, dripping, chilly world.  But once again, the forecast says warmer for the weekend.  Is that five dry weekends a row now?  It must be a new Seattle record for consecutive nice spring weekends.

We probably won't see it, but tomorrow is the Full Flower Moon and also a super moon. It's the closest the moon will get to earth this year and 30% brighter than a regular full moon.  It's also Cinco de Mayo, which has become a big deal in Seattle, especially for the Mexican restaurants and bars.  A good time to stay home and eat homemade tacos, but we have other interesting plans. More on that later.

Who am I?
If you know the name of this plant let me know. I've tried to find a picture of it on the Internet for years without luck. The two foot wide leaves appear almost overnight.

And just as fast, a nocturnal bug chews it to ribbons. A monster beetle? He doesn't eat anything else in the garden, so these two lifeforms must have some nifty codependent thing going on. Maybe he hibernates under there all winter, just waiting for spring?  I wish we had a botanist in the family who could figure it out.
