New stuff

Well, there it is. My new friend in the kitchen has a computer on top. Change is hard, and I don't remember if that was always true or if it's just another side effect of age. But getting used to new tools is hard at any age, especially when they affect the important basics of life: eating, drinking, sleeping. (That new mattress can be heaven or hell. A fancy refrigerator can drive you wild with frustration because there's no place to put the ketchup.)

And for a serious cook, a new range is serious relationship. Yes, this one seems to work fine, other than the oven emitting noxious fumes that smell like burning Teflon. All you have to do is Google "new oven bad smell" and you'll find a sorry string of complaints about this problem, regardless of brand. It is supposedly temporary as "factory residue" burns off. My sympathies to the folks in the Mexican plant where GE builds these. It must be a delightful place.

So the jury is still out. Right now I'm convection roasting a dutch oven full of pork steak and onions, and the pork aroma seems to be winning.
