Light the dark

We had a brisk, cold north wind blowing all weekend. You can see the waves here on normally calm Alki Beach, and the flag on our Lady Liberty statue snapping in the wind.

This is looking north toward Mt. Baker. The blue skies were a cheerful sight, especially after such an exhausting week. There was joy and relief in Seattle after the election, but the sad fact remains our country is as divided as ever.

I got the ladder out and put the arbor lights up. Yes, it's a bit early, but we like seeing them from the kitchen, and of course they look pretty from the sidewalk. There's rain in the forecast every day for the next couple of weeks, so I thought I'd get it done now.  Better wind than rain.

We're entering into our typical dark and wet November weather. This month is always brightened with a Thanksgiving celebration and planning for Christmas. Something no one wants to think about, without friends and family. But that is the sad reality.

Still life goes on, and the daily routine while sometimes dull (at least for me) isn't unpleasant.

The sou chef continues to perfect his knife skills. As I've said before, he is slow but precise. And what's the rush these days? Check out this fine vegetable dice for fried brown rice. We had it last night with pot stickers and cabbage salad.
