A good rain in June

Haymaking
 Book of Hours Calendar

June is Rose Month, and also:
  • Aquarium Month
  • Candy Month
  • Dairy Month
  • Fight the Filthy Fly Month
  • Gay Pride Month
  • National Accordion Awareness Month
  • National Adopt a Cat Month
  • National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month
  • Turkey Lovers Month
June is named after Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and it's the month for lucky weddings. June has the most daylight hours of the year. June in the Northern Hemisphere is similar to December in the Southern hemisphere. Think of those penguins huddled over their eggs in the dark.

There's an old farmer's saying, "a good rain in June sets all the tune."  I hope so, because May set a record for dryness in Seattle with barely a trace of moisture all month. The grass has already turned August brown. That is expensive tap water, not free rain, on the flowers below.

We're marooned in West Seattle this weekend because of a major I-5 construction project that will completely close down the freeway northbound. Of course, cars then clog all the surface streets into the city.  As luck has it, we have a symphony downtown on Sunday afternoon; getting there will require some patience.

See you Monday...
