Cats awaiting the return of fishermen
June is National Adopt a Cat Month. Also Rose Month, Dairy Month, Turkey Lover's Month, Fight the Filthy Fly Month, Candy Month and Gay Pride Month.
June 1st is "Flip a Coin Day." Some decisions just aren't worth over-thinking. Flip a coin.
What a week so far. Our painting project is proceeding in fits and starts, heavy on the fits. Have you ever watched "This Old House" on PBS, where teams of highly-skilled, specialized professionals happily do perfect work without a bit of supervision? What a pretty fantasy.
Instead of being wrapped up today as we hoped, our project is just getting started. Again. The painter they sent out Tuesday said "they did not pay him enough" to tape wall cracks or strip and sand varnished doors, as was clearly specified in our proposal. Unfortunately, he had already slapped on a coat of primer. It will all have to come off again. He packed up and left. That set off a flurry of unpleasant email and phone calls between me and the office, then a further delay finding a different crew. And a sleepless night.
Don't get me wrong. We love each other very much, but we're tired of sharing a teeny-tiny wobbly bed in the basement and stumbling over furniture and boxes of clothes upstairs. I told Gaby and her husband (our latest and hopefully last crew) that finishing our bedroom before the weekend was the top priority.
I've slipped into my familiar role: Manager of the Universe.
Who knew painting could be this hard?
