Too pretty to eat

Pigeon Victoria, Peacock Red and Pigeon Purple

This past weekend I pulled the musty geraniums out of the kitchen window box and stuck in some ornamental kale pots from Safeway. They have cute names.  It's something different when we go in and out the back door, and kale usually lasts all winter. When the leaves turn to mush they go in the compost, but ornamental cabbage is hardy down to 20 degrees or so.  I guess you can eat flowering cabbage like this and it's full of vitamins and fiber like all cruciferous vegetables.

The last garden roses?

Our weather has been wet but unseasonably warm this week, so I made a dent in the last garden chores.  The fig tree is about to lose tons of leaves, but after that's raked up it's light going for this gardener until February, when things start growing again. Winter really doesn't last long here.

Fall City Horse Park parking lot

Dolly and I hauled Skeeter and Spanky out yesterday and rode for an hour over in Fall City. The horses have good winter coats going and were sweating after just trotting around a bit. We were sweating too in our fleece jackets.  The weather will be much colder by the week with snow falling again in the mountains. All the earlier snow has melted.

Oh yea, did you hear today is election day?  The most expensive and negative election in the history of the world is finally over.  May the best man win and heaven help him.
