Grilled pineapple

Where have you been all my life? This turned out delicious not to mention healthy-- grilled shrimp, peppers and onions with a cous-cous salad.

As you can see, John has become quite the expert at fresh pineapple peeling, right down to the set of cookie cutters to precisely take out the core. I would expect no less someone who spent 40+ years working on those planes we fly around in.

Since we have a basil plant on the deck all summer, another easy pizza I make almost weekly. Trader Joe sells these cute little chubs of fresh mozzarella cheese, very good and the perfect amount for one simple margharita pizza.

We drove over to McPhearson's Produce stand yesterday on Beacon Hill to check it out, since I haven't been there since before the pandemic. It was once well-known for cheap produce and the parking lot was always jammed. Not anymore-- the prices were comparable to the organic vegetables at grocery stores, and this for their old stuff sitting in the sun.

Anyway, I guess food is the highlight of our holiday weekend staycation. On the 4th I'm looking forward to a fine hotdog from Metropolitan Market. On a white bun. With grilled onions and good mustard. Baked beans and potato chips.

Hey, it's a holiday and kind of nice in the neighborhood now, with everyone off somewhere else. Other than the incessant cawing of crows, things are quiet here.  We might take an urban trail walk today down by the West Seattle Bridge.

Hope your weekend is going well.
