A different happy place

I should hang out more often in this most private corner of the yard. It's really peaceful and pretty, especially right after the hedge gets trimmed. I sat there after dinner last night finishing my wine, listening to the birds and the bees in the old boxwood tree over my head. It was so warm for Seattle.

Our yard, when you stop to look and listen, is teeming with busy insects. A miniature island of nature, surrounded by noise and urban development.

Another happy sight. That gourd birdhouse hanging under the eaves, a gift from John's brother, finally has a resident. I thought the sparrows would take it over, but for some reason they avoid it. Last night I spotted a Bewick Wren flitting in and out. Wrens are shy and secretive birds, and their beautiful song is the only clue when they're around. Welcome Mr. and Mrs. Wren.

Well, don't expect much peace and quiet in the upcoming week. The fence lumber was delivered yesterday. It looks like enough to build an ADU! We're going to be exposed to the world for a few days after they demolish the old fence.

Off to Costco this morning. The weekend already? Have a good one.
