Repaired and rested

"Car Wars: The Bertha Awakens"

This week Bertha will finally break out of the rescue vault, punching through 15 feet of concrete. Then the path continues through waterlogged sand and clay until it reaches a concrete box for final inspections.  This is the most precarious part of the project. Can she do it?  If all goes well, Bertha then dives beneath the old viaduct and the historic brick buildings in Pioneer Square.

Drivers are being told to prepare for weeks of viaduct closures this spring.  From the Seattle Times:

"Government agencies haven’t yet published a plan for car detours, temporary bus lanes, parking restrictions or other means to control traffic. But they have already provided a hashtag, #99closure."
