Closer to home

 Downtown Twisp

That new fire that sprang up so quickly between Winthrop and Twisp on Saturday is under control now, but Amanda heard last night that friends Ben and Nimi lost their house near Twin Lakes. The firefighters were able to save many, but 8 still burned.

We've met Ben and Nimi several times, and they have two cute girls about the age of Nova and Maya. The family got out with just a few pictures and the clothes on their backs.  I'm sure their small community will rally and help them until they get back on their feet.  You can bet lots of toy boxes and closets will be cleaned out this week for the kids.

In Seattle, this amazingly warm, dry summer continues.  On Saturday, there was supposedly a zero percent chance of precipitation, but we had a thunderstorm, downpour and sun all at the same time.  Weathermen had egg on their faces. Not enough rain to do any real watering, but it wet down the straw lawn for a few minutes.

Instead of our usual flat, grey, marine clouds, there are all sorts of interesting formations at sunset and sunrise.  I should have turned this into an artistic shot by blurring out the power lines in Aperture,  but hey-- we live in the city, why fake it?

Maya
And look at this big girl. Can you believe Maya is almost two?  We had a fun visit with the family on Saturday night, but it was a busy weekend for them.  Amanda is taking her nursing test this morning, and they drive home later today.  Wish her luck!
