Seattle had 9.44 inches of rain in March, more than twice the normal monthly total of 3.72. That would be an all time monthly record for SeaTac Airport. It's been a soggy and in many ways depressing month in the Northwest. Everyone is happy to see the start of April. There's more rain in the forecast for the weekend, then early next week the start of a warm and dry spell, with a pattern of showers instead of heavy downpours. Much more typical.
On the rare days when it happens to not be wet, there's no dilly-dallying around. The lawn must be mowed (John) and weeds must be pulled (me) or we would be buried by a green jungle.
But I'm already looking forward to the flowers later this summer-- there's nothing perennials like better than a good drenching early in the spring. And with all the expensive compost on top? Get ready for some great pictures.
I dropped by the West Seattle Nursery this week, and it was sparkling with the usual spring temptations. Then I thought of the work of hauling home more plants for our over-planted garden, and decided looking was almost as satisfying as buying. I left empty-handed, maybe a first. I'm either getting old and tired or just smarter.
Speaking of smart, I was happy to see Laverne the hen (or maybe Shirley, her friend- I get them mixed up) poking around in her nursery. Those girls have lived the good life there for many years. She's just a few steps from busy California Avenue, but fortunately has no desire to "see what's on the other side."
