Embrace the chaos

Welcome fall. The crows are at it again, ripping up turf and parking strips. For a positive spin on nature, check out this video from our local KING TV 5 gardening character, Cisco.

Nothing much new here, just a quiet weekend of relaxation and football before our trip later next week.  We had a soaking rain yesterday, which loosened up the ground nicely for the crows to get to work.

It's a brisk sunny morning, and at the moment, the Northwest is the coldest spot in the country.

Spooky season

Leave it to Costco to sell the most jumbo pumpkins. I could barely lift this one into the cart yesterday, then I had to push it a quarter mile across the parking lot, like Cinderella's carriage. John lugged it up on the front porch next to the Costco mum. They make you work for your bargains.

Halloween yard decorating is in full swing around this neighborhood. Here's a odd statistic: South Dakota spends more than any other state on Halloween decorations, 28% of residents there spending $250-$499. (Which is the average monthly earnings in over 30 countries.)

I haven't bought anything new in ages, but still have a few spooky old things to put out in the fall...

October

Then summer fades and passes and October comes.
We'll smell smoke then, and feel an unexpected sharpness,
a thrill of nervousness, swift elation,

a sense of sadness and departure.

But all is not lost. October 1st is International Coffee Day, National Homemade Cookies Day, World Vegetarian Day, and National Pumpkin Spice Day.
