April 3 is Tweed Day, celebrating the thick, woolen twill fabric that originated in Scotland. Tweed jackets and suits have never really gone out of style, especially among the Downton Abbey set. The Queen has some sturdy tweed hanging in her closet.
In Great Britain, tweed is most often worn in the north and seldom in the south. You will not see a tweed suit walking around on the streets of London, unless worn by a tourist who doesn't know better.
Last time in Victoria, we were browsing around a fancy Irish import store, and John saw a Harris tweed jacket that caught his eye. Well, he doesn't do enough pheasant hunting to justify the $700 price tag.
Still very much tweed weather here. We scraped ice off the car windows yesterday morning and it snowed a whopping 16 inches in the mountains, causing another closure of Snoqualmie Pass. I hope things improve by the time Amanda and Tom go home Sunday. I got few text messages and pictures I'll share later-- looks like they're having a good time camping with their friends in Utah.
