Amanda and Tom took the kids on a hike at Hart’s Pass in the North Cascades this past weekend. It's the highest point in the state
of Washington that you can drive to. The road was built in 1893 up to
gold and silver mines, and ends near
timberline at 6000 feet in elevation. Over 1,000 people once lived in this incredibly remote area. We've never been there but I'd like to see it sometime. There are magnificent alpine views along the rather hairy-looking gravel road to the top.
It was a bit disconcerting when I Googled "Hart's Pass" this morning, and up popped dangerousroads.org
Well, no a place for a city-slicker like Mr. Avalon.
Anyway, they had a safe drive up there and a wonderful time. Maya still catches a ride on Dad's back, but looks like the high altitude took a toll on Nova, our little drama queen. :-)
Thanks Amanda for the beautiful pictures-- we're looking forward to seeing you soon.
