Windows

Windows
Ferdinand von Reznicek
1869-1909

Here's a wonderful illustration. How much time is spent looking in (or out) of windows? Ferdinand von Reznicek was an Austrian baron and cavalry officer who took up satirical cartooning. Now that's a real career change. His specialty was views of decadent upper class life, but he also did romantic subjects and dancers. Google his name, and you'll see his work is widely reproduced in postcards and art prints.

High Windows
by Philip Larkin
Rather than words comes the thought of high windows;
The sun-comprehending glass,
And beyond it, the deep blue air, that shows
Nothing, and is nowhere, and is endless.
