Red Rose Day

June 12th is National Red Rose Day.  I couldn't find anything about the origin of this day except that roses bloom in the month of weddings, and the red rose is the symbol of love. Red roses are the most popular flower in America and they symbolize love, beauty, courage and respect.

In fact, the entire month of June is Rose Month since this is when most roses come into full bloom across the country.  I took the picture above last year-- our red roses aren't blooming yet.  We have another wet and chilly week ahead and the weatherman said a 70 degree day is "possible" by Saturday.  I wish we could chase these clouds down to parched Colorado.

Dew-Drops

Our garden in the morning
Is a display of precious gems;
One can see the Roses holding
Shining crystals, jewels hidden
By the fleeing night
Between
Red folds of velvet.
