A new month
Yea! The groundhog did not see his shadow. February is here, our gateway month to spring in western Washington. (Never mind all that snow last year.) Always a fast month and now we're on final countdown to John's retirement on the 28th.
Even though the last official sunny day in Seattle was November 30th (meaning 30% or less cloud cover) the sun still struggles out now and then, and quite bright it is. I spotted this patch of somewhat soggy crocus when I walked around the block yesterday.
It was an exciting Superbowl game, wasn't it? We had barbecue ribs and corn salad in honor of Kansas City. Good for them. There's no love lost between Seattle and San Francisco, our old rivals.
The commercials this year were a different story, nothing especially memorable. Just lots of noise and silly action instead of real sophisticated humor or wit, like most movies these days. Of course, the lurid half-time show was good, but way over our old heads.
I planted the paper spine cactus I brought back from Las Vegas. We'll see how they like my moist kitchen window. Marji has a big bed of them in her backyard, and the little ones shed off so you can replant them. It's an unusual succulent, with "soft" paper-like spines. Not nearly as vicious as they look.
On the Internet, a little nub like this costs $6 plus shipping! Marji, you're sitting on a fortune.
