The view from here
The hummingbirds are going crazy this morning clicking over their favorite flower, the red crocosima. I can finally hear small birds singing in the yard again. Where were they? Those aggressive scrub jays seem to have moved along, maybe that has something to do with it.
It's been an interesting weather start to summer. We are still braced for another dry scorcher, but this cool, cloudy pattern continues. Yesterday morning was so misty and foggy you could hardly see across the street. It looked like February, but the clouds burned off like a miracle by afternoon. The temperatures are really pleasant too, in the low 70's.
I often think how lucky we are to have our windows wide open and not be tormented by bugs and/or heat. An occasional bee or fly wanders in, but most of them head for kitchen greenhouse window and commit suicide. The precious big bumblebees I try to rescue with honey on the end of a yard stick.
Best of all, we've had a little rain which sure helps with the drudgery of watering. Not to mention, the wildfire season. The grass is actually greening up a bit. We have another weather blob headed our way, unusual for July. It looks much more exciting than it is-- just some rain tonight.
