Did you watch the World Series? It was really exciting baseball. John said at times "sloppy," but I'll take sloppy excitement over boring perfection. We don't have sports cable TV so we can't watch regular season baseball, but the play-offs and the World Series are a big deal in this house each October. There's nothing like baseball on high-definition TV-- you can see every stubble on their chins. The only downside is the endless, endless repetition of Fox commercials.Here's a change of pace. Today we're going to a live production of Don Giovanni at the New York Metropolitan Opera. That's right! The Met broadcasts high-definition, real-time operas to certain movie theaters around the country. Buy a ticket, plop down in a seat with popcorn and spend several hours watching a live opera. Is it as good as the real thing? I'll let you know next week.

The Roxy theater here in Missoula gets those "live from the Met" broadcasts too. We haven't checked it out yet, but have been meaning to. We're anxious to here how you like it. Is it just me, or has opera experienced a resurgence in popularity among the common folk? There was NO opera available in Montana a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteIt was great! You should try it! There are several good ones coming up this year. It's wonderful that the Met makes first class opera accessible around the country-- even in Montana :-) I have to say though, we were the "youngsters" in the audience yesterday. Maybe Missoula would bring in a younger crowd.
