This is the outside of the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Inside this shiny cone is a large studio "hot shop" and viewing theater for live glass blowing demonstrations. We visited yesterday with John's brother and sister-in-law from Ohio. They're staying with us this week and have been glass collectors and artists themselves for many years.

Museum glass pool sculpture
Tacoma is a shrine to glass art mainly because of the city's famous native son, Dale Chihuly. The old downtown area has been revitalized over the last decade by a cluster of new museums and beautified with large public glass art installations.

Richard Royal was doing a demonstration yesterday in the museum hot shop.

It's fun watching the teamwork and creative process...

And the big masterpiece slowly taking shape.
